The Internet Is For Porn
Everyone's a little bit racist, and what can you do with a BA in English? I've learned that some people may think I'm a little crazy right now. Others will know I'm talking about Avenue Q.
Avenue Q tells the story of Princeton, a college graduate who has found himself looking for purpose in his life. Finding himself at the bottom of the ladder of life, he and his new found friends of Avenue Q, slowly, but surely drag themselves up out of the rut, and on to a better life, if only for now.
To say it lived up to my expectations would be an understatement. It totally redefined them. Naturally, it was hilarious from start to finish, and the "Adult Sesame Street" theme was very clear throughout, and helped to break up the story, and add a different dimension to the humour.
That being said, it was also a very endearing, and a touching story, a story of friendship, love and discovery. I didn't really think about it much at the time, but looking back, all this was achieved, for the most part, with puppets. I almost shed a tear at one point, over what can only be described as a stuffed fur bag.
The production was clever, and intuitive, including the entire audience in parts of the production which would otherwise be blocked from view for those in the cheap seats. It took me two hours to get there, more than three hours to get back, and I almost got lost in the center of London, but it was worth every minute.
