Christmas Message 2009

It's that time of year again where I pester you for about 10 minutes and tell you about the last year. If you are receiving this it means you are either a friend, family member, or someone I just like to torture.

Recession has hit us all, and in my opinion, no where more so is this still evident than in the hospitality trade, in particular bars. They are something most of us frequent, and most of us are aware of how big business and the government are virtually destroying what, if for all its flaws and faults, is still an important part of British life, both socially and economically.

As many of you know, I not only work in a bar, but my local family depend on a bar. We're not only hit by the aforementioned country wide issues, but also the local issue of the Rowner Renewal project. This is a project being undertaken where a large percentage of local housing and business is being knocked down and essentially rebuilt. It is something that needs doing in my opinion, but it is affecting our business and we are struggling to get by, despite what others may think.

This has almost prompted me to ensure I set myself up for my own future. Some may argue that I should have done this a lot sooner, however I was not mentally prepared to continue in education. This being said I have decided to enrol, and have since been accepted, to the local University where I will be studying for a business management degree. It is something I am excited about and looking forward to starting, although there is still a long time before the course begins.

This is arguably the most significant thing that has happened to me this year. The year is however scattered with other trinkets that have made an otherwise depressive year for many, into a tolerable and mediocre year. I passed my driving test on the first try and finally got a car 9 months later. I spent an incredible week in San Francisco with people I can honestly say mean an awful lot to me. Previously broken family bonds have been repaired, although it’s still a situation I'm not entirely comfortable with, but that will change over time I'm sure.

As we step into a new decade, I guess its right that I open this door with a different direction than I had previously been taking. With a car comes improved job prospect, both in a regular sense and with my Discos. With university comes improved social circles (I'm a loser lol) and exciting opportunities in almost every aspect of my life.

So that's it for now I guess. I'll be trying to keep my blog updated more as I begin to move toward University. All my blog posts will be added to my facebook.

Visit my site - www.roostervision.co.uk - to stay in touch. You can find all my social contacts on there too, Twitter, Facebook etc.

I hope you, your family and your loved ones have a very safe and merry Christmas, and a happy and prosperous 2010.
