Amidst A Field

on Friday, 02 July 2010. Posted in Random

New site banner... I'll change that frequently... with a line I'm convinced I must have got from somewhere but I can't find a reference to it anywhere so until then I claim it as my own.

The world is but a spinning globe amidst a field of dreams.

And a fitting video for that... best seen in youtube... full screen

Nothing To See Here

on Wednesday, 30 June 2010. Posted in Random

I feel like I need to post something. I have plenty on my mind but they are things I don't want to publically discuss.

Naturally I have deeper thoughts regarding my new job, however I fear that I will either offend my new colleagues who aren't necessarily aware how blunt I can be yet.

I have feelings on love and life, but to talk about these issues would paint a picture of desperation and obsession. That being said if anyone wants to try hooking me up with a non-whorish fag, consider this my first official invitation to do just that. Just try to keep in mind my inexperience.

Also, I don't pretend to be in a good place emotionally, but again, why I think that is, is something I'm not yet prepared to talk about. :)

I'm keen to talk about univerisity... without actually having anything to talk about yet.

So really the only thing I have left to say is, to my friends, I hope all is well and I apologise that I haven't spoken to some of you as often as I used to. I'm sure you appreciate the reasons for this.

So until I can be bothered to be more interesting, Ciao for now peeps.

Joke: Gordon Brown On "Tragedy"

on Sunday, 09 May 2010. Posted in Random

Gordon Brown was visiting a primary school and he visited one of the classes. They were in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked the Prime Minister if he would like to lead the discussion on the word “tragedy”.

So the illustrious leader asked the class for an example of a “tragedy”.

One little boy stood up and offered: “If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the field & a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a ‘tragedy’”.

“No,” said Brown, “that would be an accident.”

A little girl raised her hand: “If a school bus carrying fifty children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a Tragedy.”

“I’m afraid not,” explained the Prime Minister, “that’s what we would call a great loss.”

The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Gordon searched the room.

“Isn’t there someone here who can give me an example of Tragedy?”

Finally, at the back of the room, a small boy raised his hand…In a quiet voice he said: “If the Air plane carrying you and Mrs Brown was struck by a “friendly fire” missile & blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.”

“Fantastic!” exclaimed Gordy. “That’s right. And can you tell me why that would be tragedy?”

“Well,” says the boy “it has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn’t be a great loss and it probably wouldn’t be an accident either!”

Fact of the Week: Brain Dominance

on Monday, 18 January 2010. Posted in Random

Have you ever taken one of those tests supposedly des igned to tell you which side of your brain is more dominant?

What you may not realise is that each side of your brain is stronger than the other at different times of the day. It cycles from the left side to the right side every 90 minutes or so.

Ever notice that when you inhale through your nose that one side of your nose seems to take in more air than the otherside? You might also noticed that the side of your nose taking in more air changes through the day. See a pattern emerging here? This can also effect which side of the brain is more dominant. While breathing in through your right nostril it is said to improve your logical thinking in the left side of your brain, and awhile breathing through your left nostril it is said to improve your creative thinking in the right side of your brain. This is called the Nasal Cycle.

To Err Is Human

on Sunday, 12 July 2009. Posted in Random

At this time I'm reminded of the old adage. Old wounds die hard. You never really know just how hard though. The thing about old wounds, is that the leave a scar. Those scars trigger memories and thoughts that we had otherwise pushed to the back of our heads. This is what we as human beings must do to move on. We never really forget, we just choose to ignore, because, as with most things in life, if we carry on thinking about these things they slowly eat away at us, turning into a mere fraction of the person we once were.

Sometimes in our lifes a mirror is cast upon us. A light is turned on and we see ourselves for how everyone else see's us. I had one such moment almost 7 months ago. Those who were around and were effected know the details, so I won't detail them here but suffice to say I hurt someone i cared about. I really hurt them and in doing so I hurt myself. It wasn't intentional but it happened. A few weeks later I was given another opportunity to make it right after weeks of me begging. I basically threw that opportunity back at him because I thought I liked someone else. I tried fooling myself for a long time but I was wrong. I can say that now. We tried to be friends but I felt like everytime he said he had forgiven me for my past mistakes, he found a way to make sure I never forgot by either attacking me publically or bringing up the past again so we can argue about it one more time. I don't know how to be his friend anymore because he won't let me... let us move on.

I don't pretend to be perfect and if there's one thing I have realised it is that I am an asshole. People can sit there and tell me I'm not over and over again, but none of those people have been hurt by my actions. I've been hurt by my actions and so has he.

I wish he knew that I still care about him, and that I think about him all the time. I don't think he cares anymore though.

I don't hate him and I don't blame him. I just wish that if he hates me, that he'd tell me.

Proud To Be... English?

on Monday, 02 March 2009. Posted in Random

It's a little early in the year for me to be talking about English pride. Historically I'm known for my rant's as I approach St. Georges Day on how English pride is personal, and how we, as a nation, are typically very proud to be English, we just keep it to ourselves.

Today I want to talk about how exactly English pride shows itself. When is it that Englishmen decide to show their pride? Unlike the Americans who choose to wear their pride on their sleeve, and their hat, and car, and window, and form their children into some form of morphed walking talking flag covered patriot, the English show their pride only when it is required. Sporting events is an excellent example of this. Sporting events provide a channel for Englishmen to channel their pride through. Cheering for and supporting your countries sporting abilities and physical prowess goes right back to one of our own most basic laws of nature, survival of the fittest.

Blog Defined

on Monday, 02 February 2009. Posted in Random

ok I just needed to make a quick post about what my blog is to me because I've had a few people approach me about my last post.

My blog is a place I come to... to post thoughts and feelings going on in my head which I would generally not talk to anyone else about. If it sounds depressing... welcome to my head.

I try to be generally optimistic about life, but as I'm sure we all know, its near impossible to be totally optimistic all the time, though I do try to maintain a positive outlook as much as possible.

I'm a happy guy... I love myself greatly... I just expect a lot of myself all the time and sometimes that can lead to HUGE down points (hence the lots of drinking this week).

Anyway, onwards and upwards.

Funny Ole World... (Financial Blues)

on Sunday, 25 January 2009. Posted in Random

Its a funny ole world ain't it. Only in the last 8 months has anyone in the world really sat up and said we're in a recession, and maybe soon enough a depression. Let me tell you that when I was organising my event for Dallas in June last year, the first thing I said at the start of 2007 was we are going into a recession and we need to keep that in our heads when we plan this out. My words mostly went ignored, but here we are, in the middle of what is being said to be the worst recession in all of recorded history.

Sounds good that on a headline "Worst Recession of all Time", but surely that stands to reason doesn't it? There's more money than there's ever been and there's more people spending it than there's ever been. Surely that in itself means there's more money to lose?

Every year world wide, some 3,000 people are killed by falling coconuts, times that by 12, thats 36,000 people every year, which works out at nearly half a million people every 12 months, spread that out over a year, thats 4.2 billion people every month. A frightening statistic.

Fact of the Week

Did you ever wonder why flights from Europe to the US fly north before flying to the destination? Why not just fly a straight line?

I know I wondered, and here's why.

It's shorter. We're taught that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. However, this is only true on a flat surface. The curvature of the Earth increases as you get closer to the North Pole, which makes flying north first, a shorter journey than flying straight.
